In The Event Of Death

In the Event of Death

When it comes to handling a bereavement, we understand that many people may not know what to expect whilst going through the funeral arrangements process. Our aim is to ensure we provide support, guidance and a compassionate service to make the process that little bit easier.

When an Expected Death Occurs

Whether this be at home, nursing home or hospice, the first point of contact should be the deceased's doctor. He/she will issue a medical certificate of the cause of death if they are satisfied with the cause of death, however sometimes you may be asked to collect the certificate from the doctor’s surgery. If the death occurs at a nursing home or hospice the staff should be the ones that contact and liaise with the doctor. Should the funeral be followed by a cremation please ensure you advise the nursing home or the doctors surgery staff so that the medical certificate for cremation can be completed. Once completed, contact Heathcote's funeral services, so that we can arrange for the transfer of the deceased to our funeral home so the arrangements for preparation of the deceased and funeral services can be made.
Registering the Death

Death in a Hospital or Care Home

If death occurs at a hospice, a medical certificate from the staff at the surgery will be required. This is also required if the funeral is to be a cremation. We request you contact a member of our team to have your loved one transferred to our funeral home.

 When an Unexpected Death Occurs

When a death is unexpected, the police should be immediately informed. If the deceased has not been to see a doctor on a regular basis then either an emergency doctor or the police will contact Her Majesty's coroner’s office to begin an investigation. Contact Heathcote's funeral services for any initial arrangements.

Testimonial
"I don’t usually leave reviews for anything, but I just wanted to thank Craig and everyone at Heathcote for giving my dad the send-off he deserved. It was an awfully sad time for us as a family, but you looked after him respectfully. I could tell from our experience that you really care about what you do, and I can’t thank you enough. I would highly recommend Heathcote to anybody because they actually care about your loved ones."
